Building confidence, expression and joy...
Since its creation in 1939, the San Francisco Opera Guild has been dedicated to offering opera education and creative fundraising support to the SF Opera. Opera Together visits more than 90 schools through the greater Bay Area each fall, presenting a reduced version of a classic opera performed in English. The Guild engages four teams of 3-4 singers and a pianist to play the major roles in the opera, while students in each school are cast in 10-15 small supporting speaking roles and the class or student body performs as a chorus. Just like opera in an opera house, these performances include costumes and scenery. The Guild relies on regional Docents to help the visiting artists on the performance day and to introduce the opera to the school audience.
Opera Together artists are presenting La Cenerentola -- Cinderella -- to 11 Sonoma County schools in the 2024-25 season. But wait, this isn't a rehash of a beautiful damsel waiting for a fairy godmother or handsome prince to solve her problems: Our Cinderella makes her own choices and creates her own future. Join us for a performance as a docent or audience member!
